The vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not a Muslim party and that President Muhammadu Buhari has no plans to Islamise the country.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the vice president made this clarification during the flagging-off ceremony of the governorship campaign of the Gombe state APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya held in Kaltungo on Thursday, January 10. The vice president was in the company of to the Secretary Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha.
Osinbajo told the crowd at the event that the APC is for everyone and not a Muslim party as being claimed by the opposition party. He urged the people to vote for President Buhari in February and other candidates of the party, saying this will take them to the next level. Mustapha on his part said, he would not be holding a sensitive government position if the APC was truly a Muslim party. He went on to name RotimiAmaechi, IbeKachukwu, Godwin Emefiele, and Edward Adamu who is also an indigene of Kaltungo, as some of the Christians in the Buhari administration.
In his own speech, Yahaya, said that the people of Gombe state and especially Gombe South have suffered greatly in the hands of PDP. He said: “That is why they have come out in their numbers to show their loyalty and support for APC.” Meanwhile, Osinbajo says President Buhari is trustworthy and honest enough for the job of the president of Nigeria beyond 2019. Osinbajo said this on Thursday, January 10, during the All Progressives Party (APC) governorship campaign launching held at Kaltungo in Gombe state. According to him, Nigeria needs a man of Buhari’s qualities for the job of presiding over the country.
